The AU-STRC Expert Committee further recommended in November 2008 that the AU Commission and RECs encourage academic and research institutions of Africa to
- Form national and regional virtual research centres for infectious diseases
- Enhance capacity for DIM of and response to infectious disease
- Promote research on exploiting indigenous knowledge and traditional medicine in infectious disease management.
